Silaw Celebrates Buwan ng Wika

Silaw, a group of Filipino majors from the College of Education, spearheaded the Linggo ng Wika program in the afternoon of August 23, 2015 held in front of the Administration Building.  The theme of the activity was “Filipino, Wika Para sa Pambansang Kaunlaran’’.
The Chair of the BSEd program, Prof. Rhodora Laguda, offered her words of welcome where she also discussed the history of the Filipino Language.  This was followed by students’ presentations on talumpati, sabayang pagbigkas, tula, awiting bayan, and interpretative dance that showed their ardent love for the national language.
Nikko Pama, the President of Silaw, hosted the Question and Answer portion where questions about the Filipino language were entertained.
Mr. Rogelio Flores receives a certificate of recognition for his outstanding contribution to the Filipino teaching profession.
           The program concluded with the speech of Prof. Sandy Zaragosa, a Filipino professor from the College of Education, who thanked all the teachers and students who attended the program. At the end of his speech, he encouraged the students to be more nationalistic and learn to love our country with passion.

Rumbuhan Spearheads AHYDP Symposium 2015

The Rumbuhan Teen Center, in partnership with the Office of Student Affairs and the Provincial Population Office, held a symposium on Adolescent Health and Youth Development for CapSU Burias students in the morning of August 13, 2015 in front of the Administration Building.
            OSA Chair, Dr. Mary Ann B. Martelino, welcomed the guests and participants to the Symposium where she stressed the importance of conducting awareness activities to mitigate the influence of peer pressure and help adolescents make responsible and informed decisions.
            Rumbuhan invited resource speakers from the Provincial Population Office to impart their knowledge about relevant youth issues confronting students of today.  They were introduced by the Rumbuhan president, Roel Nastor (BSED III).  Mrs. Nieva D. Camposano ( Social Welfare Officer III) discussed the overview of Philippine adolescents and ESI; Mrs. Florle G. Meñez ( Population Program Officer I) lectured on HIV AIDS; and Mrs. Mary Luzvyn A. Abella (Social Welfare Officer II) expounded on responsible sexuality.  The Municipal Population Officer of Mambusao, Mr. Jerry N. Lacuarta, was also present and he talked about the rationale and objectives of the program.
            Peer educators Thea Lyn Salaya and Roxan Pagay tackled the issues of being a responsible boy or girl, while Louella Louise Cordero was aided by Roel Nastor in the Panatang Maka-Selfie.
 Prof. Genalyn L. Baranda, Rumbuhan coordinator, gave the closing remarks and helped facilitate the affair.  Other faculty and staff of the campus also joined the event.
            Students were generous with their questions during the open forum and the resource speakers were all too willing to answer their queries.  Ashile Mae Dalida (BSED III) emceed the program.
