Capiz
State University Burias Campus observed the 7th FLP local week
celebration on January 28-29, 2016 with the theme “FLP: Creating a Difference for
Tomorrow’s Leaders”.
Various
skill competitions on animal science, crop science, fisheries and agro-forestry
were conducted. Cultural competitions
including extemporaneous speaking, vocal solo, vocal duet, and oration also
enlivened the affair. The highlight was the
parliamentary procedure contest.
The
opening plenary was chaired by Ms. Lea Jane Salaya, FLP Chapter President. Dr. Ludovico C. Olmo, the campus
administrator, welcomed the guests and attendees. Prof. Gerard Lee Atienza, the
Local FLP adviser, introduced the guest speaker, Atty. Arthur J. Lastimoso.

Atty.
Lastimoso is a high school alumnus of the then Panay State Polytechnic College
(now Capiz State University), Agri-Science Curriculum. In his speech, he
mentioned that the Future Farmers of
the Philippines (now Future Leaders of the Philippines) had a major contribution
to his becoming a lawyer. He told
students not to give up on their dreams and not to succumb to failures in life. He added that they must choose the right
leaders during the elections and should not believe everything they see on
social media but make informed choices instead. He concluded his speech by emphasizing that
when goals are reached, students must keep their feet on the ground - stay
humble, stay simple, and live a life grounded on morality, honesty, and
fairness. In parting, he said, “Always remember to have fun.”
Dr.
Pedro G. Gavino, Vice President for Research and Extension, then gave a brief
message about qualities of leadership.
He challenge the students of CapSU Burias when he stressed, “Everything
starts within yourself, think of the challenge CapSUnians!”
Prof.
Ramonita C. Verano, co-adviser of the organization, briefed the participants on
the different skills and cultural competitions including the place where these
competitions will be conducted.
